Adoption Application Request

Interested in adopting?

We at GLWR are committed to giving the dogs we rescue the best chance at a wonderful life.  To that end, we ask you to know these things:

1.  The application process is not instantaneous.  We are all volunteers and we move things along as quickly as possible.  We need to get to know you through the application process just like we get to know the dogs through our intake process.  It is in the best interest of all involved that this be done correctly.

2.  We do not hold dogs.  Approved adopters have their choice of appropriate dogs for their situation.  If you see a dog on the website that you would like, we cannot guarantee that that dog will still be available once your application is approved.

3.  Note to Families with children:   Weimaraners are large, energetic, demanding sporting dogs and can have strong prey drives.  They require lifelong mental and physical exercise as well as training.  All breeds of rescued dogs require even more time, training and patience than the typical dog and GLWR Weims are no exception.

For the safety of your children and the welfare of our dogs, GLWR does not adopt to families with children under the age of eight.  Families with children ages 8-10 must have owned a Weimaraner in the recent past.  Families with no Weimaraner experience must have children age 10 and over.  No exceptions will be made.

We know that it is easy to fall in love with a photo or description
on the website and want to take that dog home with your family. We
work very hard to make sure that any dog from GLWR that is adopted or
fostered is the right fit for the home it goes to. We must get to
know you through the application process just as we must get to know
the dogs through our intake process. Our goal is for everyone to
have a positive experience. If the dog you fell in love with on the
website is not a good fit for your family and lifestyle, it will be
the dog who suffers most. Should there be an unforeseen issue, we
will accept our dogs back, but it takes its toll on the animal to be
re-homed once again.

It is common for multiple people to be interested in the same dog on
our website. We carefully go through all applications and determine
the home that will be just right for that dog. If families have gone
through the application process and are waiting for the right dog to
become available, they are considered first. We DO NOT hold dogs
while newly-interested adopters go through the approval process. So,
do not wait until you see a dog you like on the site before starting
the adoption process. The key to a great adoption is taking the time
to do it right. We are an all-volunteer group with families and
jobs, but we process the applications as quickly as possible.
Getting to a well-matched family in an efficient manner benefits the
dog most of all.

To coin a phrase from a famous commercial, "We will adopt no Weim
before its time." Though it may seem tedious from the adoption side,
our process is in place for the good of the dogs. They are our
priority and our passion. Your patience will be rewarded in ways you
cannot imagine, so get the ball rolling by filling out our request form (above) or email us directly at:
applications@greatlakesweimrescue.com. We will get back to you just as soon as possible.
