GLWR does not ship dogs, but if you are willing to travel to meet one of our dogs fostered in one of our Satellite Chapters, then you are welcome to apply for adoption.  With the increased cost of travel, GLWR will do what we can to make it easy for potential adopters to meet dogs.

adopted!

I am a very lucky dog. That’s because I finally have the opportunity to find my forever home. I’m four years old and I’ve never had a forever home. Well, my first home technically was a forever home but it was a backyard puppy mill. I lived in a 24” crate with my puppies and we weren’t fed well nor cleaned.  Luckily, a good Samaritan took me in and got me to GLWR. Phew! All of that before I got in the right hands to help me find a good home.

I am a trim silver girl with a white star on my chest. I like to play with other dogs and I really like human companionship. Right now I live with two other Weims at my foster family. I get along with both dogs really well although I like hanging out with my foster dad best.  I think I’d like to be in a home with another dog and some loving humans. I like being surrounded by people and dogs.

I know sit, lay down, and place. I respond well when called. I am motivated by food which is a great training tool. I bark if someone approaches the house but otherwise I’m pretty quiet. Sometimes I bark when I play. It’s just so much fun to wrestle with my foster brother. I ride in a car just fine.
I am working on being crated. Remember I told you I was in a small dirty crate at the puppy mill? I am not crazy about crates but my foster family says I’ve made a lot of progress. I will escape if you don’t secure the door. I’m a Houdini. My ideal forever home is not one where I would need to be crated all day.

I have a medium-high energy level and would probably be a good running companion. Exercise is always good for a Weim. I need a pack leader who can set some rules for me as sometimes I can be a little pushy asking for attention. I will stick my nose under your elbow while you are reading and ask for love!

Did I mention I want love and that I will give a lot back in return? I am so ready to commit to a forever home.  I know you are out there!

Arcadia

Arcadia  Arcadia

katie

  Fostered in Michigan

Arcadia (aka Katie) is a three-year-old blue girl who is full of energy.  If you need a dog to get you off the couch and moving, she's your girl!  She walks well on a leash and enjoys going for runs, too.  Arcadia is very eager to please her humans.

She is a big girl and needs to go to a family with older children, as she'll knock over young ones with her exuberance.  She has a strong prey drive and cannot be placed in a home with cats or small animals.

Arcadia is crate trained.  She does not get along well with other dogs, so she will do best in a home where she is the only dog.  She is an amazing girl and should respond well to a positive training approach to her behavior issues with other canines.

If you are looking for a loving dog and have time and structure to give, please let us know and we'll introduce you!

Belle

Fostered in Wisconsin

I love to smile and will let you know how happy I am to see you with a big grin. I will spin and twirl at a little bit of attention from you. My foster family says I am a beautiful girl with a lovely soft face. I am a four year old silver female in good health. Like many of us, I am a few pounds overweight and would love to trim up with you by taking some walks and spending some time ball chasing and being active in the yard or dog park.

While I do fine with other dogs, I prefer people to dogs and really want to be with a human family again. I can be a little “mouthy” - I like to grab shirt tails and sleeves - so I am not suitable for homes with younger children less than 10 years of age. I would probably be over stimulated by kids’ vocal and physical activity, too. I would make a wonderful companion for a more mature individual or couple that can provide me the structure and adult leadership to make sure I stay on my best behavior. I free roam the house nicely but given the opportunity I will counter surf for food.

I can be in a home with other dogs. I might steal their food and get pushy over kibble but other than that I am a good dog friend. I do have a bit of prey drive so no cats please.

I know all the basic commands (although I have some selective listening issues) and love to please humans. I like car rides and ride well. I am not barky at all and am very clean in the house. If you want a nice companion and friend and a warm, happy wet nose greeting when you come home I may be the girl for you!

Bo

Bo Bo

BO Bo

Fostered in Michigan

Hello, my name is Bo. I am 4 years old but still have the energy of a puppy.  That means that I like to do puppy things like jump up on you, chew on fabric etc., but I mean well. Lately, I’m really starting to come into my own as a dog.  I’m getting more agile and fast as the days go by. I will now walk next to you like a good dog should.

I was found as a stray.  My foster Dad thinks that I didn’t run away because I’ve been off the leash many times and stuck around him.  I have a microchip, but the address listed was vacant, so my foster Dad thinks that somebody left me because they could not afford me. I know some commands from my previous family. I’m completely house trained.

I LOVE people.  When I go to the dog park, I would rather hang out with people than other dogs. I’m good around other dogs but people are best. I’m EXTREMELY affectionate.  I like to sleep with my head on my foster Dad’s chest and I like to cuddle even when it’s hot out.  Face-to-face contact while getting my cheeks scratched is my favorite all-time activity.

I should not be in a house with young kids until I mature and learn new dog behaviors. I get startled easily and will nip and bark at young kids.  I NEED 1-2 hours of exercise per day, otherwise I will be very anxious, so make sure if you adopt me that you can give me the exercise I need.

Overall, I’m going to be a great dog for the right person or family.  Just remember that like most Weims, I will probably have puppy-like energy for years to come.

Butch

Fostered in Illinios

Hi, my name is Butch!!

They tell me I'm 10 years old, but I sure don't feel like 10.  I'm pretty spry if I do say so myself.

My parents got a divorce and I ended up at GLWR.  My foster parents say I'm a very good boy.  I get along well with my foster Weim brother and sister.  I LOVE to go on walks with them and I walk very well on a leash.  I also ride good in a car, unlike my foster brother.  I am house trained and will let you know when I want to go outside.  I do not counter surf, I do not chew, and my foster parents leave me free to roam throughout the day while they go to work.  I mostly enjoy relaxing on my very cozy dog bed.  At my old home I was apparently allowed on the couches, but my foster parents do not let us weims on their furniture.  Go figure.  They've taught me well – I no longer go for the couch!  Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks???

A few years back, I was hit by a car and my back legs are a little stiff at times.  This does not affect my going on walks or climbing the two flights of stairs I have to at my foster home (or getting on the couch if you'll let me!).  However, I would probably do best in a forever home without a lot of stairs and slippery floors.  My foster mom has hardwood floors, which I can walk on pretty good, but she makes my life easier by putting down some throw rugs,  They treat me really well around this place.

My foster parents can't believe what a low-maintenance Weim I am!!!  If you take me for a walk every now and then and show me some love and attention, I'd be the happiest guy around.

Love, Butch

Woof woof, lick, scratch, howl- oh, hello there!  Clooney here, just busy being me and waiting for my new family to learn and play and have adventures with- oh my!  I am…well, not to boast….THE smartest weim in the world.  It’s true.  Are you smarter than me?  Let’s see!

I am looking for a new family who can keep me busy.  I’m not high energy, pretty easy going really and very affectionate, but I like a challenge.  If you look deep into my eyes, you can see that I am calculating, planning ahead, counting the seconds until you turn your head for an instant and I can steal your sandwich- hah!  If my new family wanted to do obedience, agility, tracking, therapy work, anything to keep my mind busy, we would do great.  I like other dogs, and cats are fine, and kids are fine too (I will probably steal their lunch though).  I just need a new family with a job for me.

I have a heart next to my name to help me look for that special home.  I have been under treatment also for a salivary gland infection which caused a little pocket of fluid in my throat.  I got some antibiotics, and it cleared the infection right up, so now there is a little pocket of swelling that may go down with time, but I do NOT look like a blowfish anymore- it’s not funny- don’t laugh at me!  Anyhow.

I know you’re filling out the application as we speak, so I will clear my calendar to meet with you soon.  In the meantime I will solve world hunger.  Cheers- Clooney

Diesel

Diesel

Fostered in Wisconsin

Hi there everyone, I'm Diesel.  I'm a two-year-old boy who loves hugs, watching TV on the floor with you and belly rubs.  I'm a very happy, mellow boy and love everyone and everything.  I live with another Weim, my foster brother.  We really enjoy being together.

I went to the vet the other day and they said I weigh 85 lbs. I have all my shots and am a neutered, healthy boy.  The vet opened his medicine cabinet made of glass, and the reflection made me jump at the cabinet.  Weims are predisposed to OCD, and when I came to my foster home I was obsessed  with light and reflections.  My foster Mom has been working on this with me and my reactions have almost been eliminated at home.  My foster Mom has OCD information to pass along to my forever family to keep my progress going.  The vet said it could be the hunting dog in me, but keep a leash on me so I don’t get hurt.

When I first came to my foster home I was so hungry that I ate all my food at once and it would come right back up.  I'm all better now because my Mom put this big boulder in my food dish which made me eat slower. They took the boulder out of my dish now and I'm all good.

I love bones, bones, bones, bones; especially those “MONSTER BONES” all in a big basket so I can help myself, thank you.

When I walk I really can pull, they place a special collar on me that makes me heel.

During the day, if you’re not home I have no problem in being in a crate, but it needs to be a big 48" one so I can stretch out.  I'm a big boy!  No more potty accidents either now that my eating is under control.

Oh yes, one more thing. In true Weim fashion, I used to eat bread off the counter, but I’m over that now.   HOWEVER….do not leave butter or bacon grease on the counter because, well, they might just disappear.  Yum!

I'm a good boy, just young and in need of exercise, structure and training.  I want you to be happy, so I work very hard to do what you want.  I'd love to meet you, so tell GLWR you'd like to have them arrange it.

Love, Diesel

I have two speeds – running and playing or lying flat on my belly like a frog! I am a small, two year old grey female who is high energy. I’m not hyper, I just haven’t quite learned how to behave. I have a lot of young, puppy behaviors that a good, structured environment could channel positively. I am teachable and I am submissive which will respond well to a pack leader like you. I am very people oriented love to play with other dogs. I would make a nice family god with older kids since I tend to jump. An active family who will run with me is ideal. I should be crated and house rules established before I am allowed to free roam. I can be crated up to 4-8 hours although you’d better exercise me after. No small animals or cats please. I chased chickens at my former owner’s farm. :-)

Hello there. I am Eli. Guess what? I am a catch! Why, you ask? Let me tell you. I am a 1 year old male who is very flexible. And I don’t mean I can touch my toes. I am excellent in a crate, great with other dogs, love people, clean, quiet and know basic commands. I would fit in a lot of different households. I am on the smaller side with an alert demeanor. I would be a great running companion and l love to play ball. One interesting thing about me (there are many!) is that I use my paws like hands. I can be a little jumpy as I’m still young. I’m really a great dog and ready to be YOUR dog. Are you ready to be my forever home?

Freedom

Freedom Freedom

Freedom Freedom

Fostered in Michigan

HI! My name is Freedom. I was born September 11, 2001. That was the day the towers fell in NYC. I lived with my parents until I was 9. They said I was getting grumbly so they gave me to the rescue.

I now live with my foster mom and two foster brothers. My foster brothers are
3 and 4 years old. They are just wild. I keep them in line though with a gruff bark, but I have never had any intentions of hurting anyone. Someone has to keep those two in line. My foster mom has parties with people of all ages, including kids, and I love to be around everyone. I am bossy so my mom calls me Mamma Freedom, but she loves me. I know because I am sweet.

I came to the rescue very over weight. I have lost 20 pounds and even have a cute waist now. When I wiggle my tail too fast my right hip gets going and my foster mom calls it ‘the hippie shake’. I like to play outside more and more as the weather gets nicer and I continue to get into better shape.

I am a very sweet girl. Every one who meets me loves me. I am very laid back. I like to take naps and go on leisurely walks. I am very loyal and stay close to your side. I love the weekends because my foster mom is home all day long. I love that.

That being said, I am still looking for my forever home. I know I will make a very good companion and I promise to make you smile every time you see my pretty face and sparkling eyes.

Like most rescues we operate with volunteers and are funded by donations.  GLWR and Freedom would greatly appreciate any contribution you could make to help pay for her medication.  GLWR is a 501(c)3 non-profit and your donation should be tax deductible (check with your tax preparer).

Fritz

adopted!

Hi everybody! My name is Fritz, and my foster family says I am a very handsome and friendly boy. I am 13 months old, and I came to GLWR because my owner got very sick. Another family member tried to take me in, but there was just not enough time for their growing family to share with a young boy like me.

My foster family has 2 other Weims – 7 and 4 y/o females. I love them both, and they love me most of the time. Sometimes my puppy enthusiasm is not appreciated, but they just let me know, and I back off. They have a cat in the house, which I am not used too, so I bark and chase her, and she runs and hides.  My foster family doesn’t know if I can be trained out of this habit, but it might be best if I am in a home without cats.

The family that had me between my original owner and my foster family had two kids, age 7 and 10.  I did great with them, but I might be a bit too big and energetic for younger toddlers … I get a little silly once in awhile and I wouldn't want to knock one down.

I know my basic commands – come, sit, (lay) down, drop (the ball), and am a blank slate for learning new stuff. I love the dog park, where I can run and fetch and meet new dogs and people. Sometimes my puppy enthusiasm is not appreciated by other dogs – I am very friendly, but need to learn some manners.  My foster parents say I am good on a leash (although, sometimes I walk circles around them or trees, so I think I need to learn some more!)

I am totally potty trained, and I don't need a crate (OK, I guess you could say I really don’t like being crated. Before I came to my fosters, my last family tried crating me, and I barked and scratched, and was generally unhappy about it.) When my family is away, they keep me in the kitchen, behind a kiddie gate with my Weim sisters. I could easily jump the gate, but I don’t.

I’m perfect, right?  Well, we all have areas for improvement … I have shown a tendency to counter surf, so my foster family tries to not leave food out on the counter. Also, I did chew up a hat and some papers from the counter when my foster family left me penned in the kitchen. Most of the time I am good, and ignore the stuff up there, but once in a while, I can’t help myself. (I am a puppy, but should be able to be trained past this!)

My foster family says if they didn’t already have two Weims, they would keep me forever, and they know some other family will be very lucky to add me to their family (and I will be lucky to find my forever home!)

You guessed it! I am a silver grey Weim. Could you tell from my name? I am a 4 year old male of a stocky build and around 80 pounds. I would be really good in a home with experienced Weim owners or other dog experience. Maybe it’s because I don’t have a permanent home but I can be a little pushy with people because I want human attention so badly. I’m playful with other dogs but not small dogs. I can go to the dog park but keep me away from the small dog area. In fact, if you want to clear your yard of squirrels and chipmunks, I am your dog! That means no cats, too. I know basic commands. I am clean. I am crateable and will bark at first but then I settle down. I am OK in a car. I can do an invisible fence. No kids under 12 please… I can be a little mouthy like Weims can be.  Come on. Check me out. I need some love!

Let’s be honest. I’ve been on this planet for a while – 9 or 10 years – and I know what I like. Let me tell you those things because they may be the same things you like! I like humans but not small ones. I mean kids less than 12 years old are OK but I’d rather not live with them. They can visit if they leave me alone. I will do the same. OK, back to what I like. I LOVE attention, sleeping on the couch and squirrel watching. I LOVE food. I will stand next to you in the kitchen while you prepare my meal just to make sure you don’t forget what you are doing. And I will tap with my chin to let you know I’m waiting. I like other dogs unless they are dominant. Or try to take my food.  Or try to tell me what to do. In those instances I will get pushy. Remember, I know what I like! I can live with male or female dogs.

I free roam at home and am good girl. I will help you out with food on your counter if you leave it out. I take that to mean it is for me! I am not food aggressive with humans. I will alert bark if I hear something outside. Otherwise I am quiet. I have great recall when you call me and I understand all the basic commands. Once I get to know you, I will want to be by you. I don’t have separation anxiety but when you come home I will do pirouettes and leaps all around the kitchen! I love to ride in the car, too. I am gentle and would be a great companion for a quiet household or older household.

I take a medication to help my bladder. I have slight loss of bladder control. It’s called Prion and I take one tablet a day. When I take these magic tablets, I am trouble free.

So, do you like what I like? Are we compatible? I’m OK with it if you don’t like to watch squirrels. Really. We can just sleep on the couch or give me attention. I can hang out with you and be happy to see you. I know it’s a match made in heaven!

Think of Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Now think of them as female dogs and that’s us! Maggie is the analytical and mischievous one that figures out how to open gates and doors. Gracie is quieter and not as mischievous. She is the enabler in this duo. Maggie and Gracie are 3 year old biological sisters with a strong bond and should be placed together in a home. They were raised with young kids and are fun family dogs. They like to run and play ball. The pair is high energy and adequate exercise will be required to keep them calm at home. They know commands and are good with other dogs. They are crate trained and are usually quiet in the crate with a sheet over top.  Maggie and Gracie are a great pair and a lot of fun. Because of their inquisitive and highly intelligent nature, they need an owner that will “keep them honest.” For example, they can be jumpy but they know better. A consistent reminder should do the trick. This is a fun, high energy pair that will entertain you and each other.

I am social with dogs but I’d rather hang out with you.  I am an owner surrender so I know some commands, I ride well in the car, I can free roam the house and I don’t counter surf. I can be crated if you prefer. I’m food motivated if you want to get my attention. I really like playing with balls and collecting and carrying toys, sticks, etc.  I’m a clean Wiem and I’m quiet. The only time you really hear from me is when I’m first crated. I pull a little on the leash and I can jump a 4’ baby gate if you have one of those or fencing. I would be good in a family with kids 8+ years of age only because I can be pushy with food.

I’ve been told I am a versatile Weim. I am good with people and dogs. I am good with kids. I am mindful and know commands – not that I won’t test you, but I take correction well. I can free roam or be crated. I don’t counter surf but I might sniff! I travel well in a car. While it doesn’t mean I can’t be with other dogs, I am very food motivated and can be pushy over food. My prey drive is not strong so I should be OK with cats (although I haven’t been cat tested). I’m 4 years old and an owner surrender.  All in all, I am a really nice girl and I have a lot to offer.  I want to offer it to you!

Henrie

Fostered in Michigan

Henrie is a sweet, young, handsome boy who is looking for just the right woman. He is a 4-year-old mouse grey Weim who is overwhelmingly drawn to women and can be anxious and nervous around larger men. He is a good boy who loves to curl up on the couch and cuddle, but he needs a special home.

Henrie's owner surrendered him, along with his father and sister, to a shelter. We think that Henrie's past home environment was not a happy or safe one. He needs a lady that can give him structure and support to help him understand what is expected of him as a companion. He desperately seeks love, but also needs to have someone
teach him the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Without clear expectations, Henrie can become very possessive of his lady human companion and his time with her.

He can be crated, but gets a bit nervous and would do better in a larger kennel when he needs to be confined. Henrie is very intelligent and LOVES food, so he learns quickly with food rewards.

He was adopted earlier from GLWR, but did not acclimate well to life in a rental home due to his owner's schedule. He was very nervous and pensive and struggled in that environment. Henrie just really needs a lady to call his own who lives in a quieter, perhaps more rural environment. He has a lot to offer to just the right person!

I am a one year old silver long tail! I am a large Weim but not because I am overweight. I am all legs! That’s right, a tall Weim.

I came from a shelter so there’s not a lot of information about my background.  I’m a little shy around other dogs and keep to myself but I’m fine with dogs socially. For example, I am good at the dog park.  I am a sweet, loving boy who prefers people to dogs if I am given the choice who to hang out with. I will tell you that there is one type of person I don’t like and that is young, teen males. I react aggressively to them. I was probably teased by a teen boy in my past. I like to play and can be a little assertive with play. For these reasons, I should go to a forever home with Weim experience. My human pack must be structured and I need to be reminded of my place in that structure. My forever home should not have kids or teens. Adults only please.

I am not a barker. I am not food aggressive. I am clean in my crate. Sometimes I charge my crate if I think I’m being threatened. I act like someone hit my crate. Maybe it was a teen boy? If you give me rules and love and keep me away from teen boys, we will do just fine.  I really want to find my forever home and some nice humans.

Izzy

My name is Izzy.  I'm a three-year-old silver girl looking for someone special to love. I'm here because my owner kept dumpping me on the side of the road - then decided he didn't want me.  I spent four months in an animal shelter till GLWR sent my foster mom to get me.  I was sooo happy to get out of there.

The very first place we went was the dog park where I ran and ran and ran with a big grin on my face.  My mom says it's good I like the park cause I need the exercise to help lose some weight. I'm also on a "diet" whatever that is, I just know I'm hungry and constantly search the counters and hope Mom leaves the garbage down. I showed Mom I can take frying pans off the stove without spilling a drop - even when they're hot.  Mom doesn't appreciate that trick.

I'm not what they call a barker.  I can be crated or free-roam, however I should be crated at first until I learn my boundaries.  Too much freedom at first will allow me to get into trouble.

I play very nice with my sister weim after we figured out who was boss.  I try to be, but other dogs don't always agree.  I even tried to tell a 90-pound male Weim what was what and he rolled me over and stood on me.  I got the message, finally.  I guess I need the direct approach!  They say I need to be an only dog or live with another dog who is not dominant.

I like all dogs and people at the dog park. I don't know any cats or little kids, so I'll need a home without them just to be on the safe side.  I do like to give little weimie nips for kisses - I once got Mom in the hinder :)  I can sit, stay and lay down.  I come  when I'm called at the park but will need help if off leash. I am the best cuddler and I do like to be up on the pillow near you when I sleep. Mom calls me the shadow cause I follow her around.

Mom says someone will be getting a very special dog if they bring me to their fur ever home - is it You?

Jackson

Fostered in Indiana

Just call me Action Jackson! I am a young, 15 month old silver male Weim who is very happy and very social. I love people and I love to cuddle! I'm good with other dogs and could be in a home with another dog or cat. I am high energy so I need an owner who will play ball, go running with me, take me to the dog park and just plain wear me out. I am a typical young Weim who hasn't had a lot of structure so my enthusiasm is sometimes unchecked. My foster mom wants you to know I'm not a discipline issue; I just need an owner that will be a pack leader, give me some training and set some rules.  Because of my high energy, I've been told I'd be best in a home with kids older than 10 years of age. I still need to be told not to jump when I get excited!

I will go in my crate and you will probably want to use my crate since I'm curious. I am a quiet dog and don't bark a lot. Sometimes I bark in my crate because I'm trying to tell you I'd rather be out playing with you. I'm okay on a leash but I'd prefer running around the dog park. I was an owner surrender so I know "sit" and a couple of basic commands.
I am tall and lanky. My metabolism is high and since I'm active, I eat a lot and still need to put on weight. I'm not sick though, I've been to the vet.

If you are looking for a loving, fun Weim that will run or play with you, I am your dog! I really want a human who will love me and show me how to be a well-trained boy. In return I will give you tons of love and lots of fun. Come meet me and let's see if we are a good fit. I bet we are!

Love,
Jackson

Lita

Fostered in Wisconsin

My foster mom calls me lovely Lita.  Why?  Because I really love to be with my foster family and their dog.  Mom tells me I am velcro dog.  I don't get on the furniture but I love to ride in the car, lay at your feet, beside your bed, and hang out in the kitchen when you are cooking.  I am not a counter surfing terrorist, mom won't permit that.  I do crate nicely if that is what you need too.

I do love to run and take daily walks, and I see everything, mom says I don't miss a thing.  Sometimes mom needs to tell me leave-it regarding cars, leaves and other things.  What's a girl to do? I love to play catch but don't always bring the ball back.  I know commands and learn quickly (except I seem to have a mental block about that bring-the-ball-back thing).

I am a little overweight and currently on a diet, starting to get my girlish figure back…I know because the boys are paying attention to me.  I'm six years old and do well with kids, but they should be over 10 years old.

Though I get along with other dogs, I would prefer to be adopted into a home that doesn't have another dog.   Why?   Because I love to be loved and would rather not share that attention.  Come on, who doesn't feel that way?  I'm just being honest here. That's a good thing, right?

I'd love to meet you, so let GLWR know you have your eye on me!

Fostered in Illinois

Hi, I'm Melinda but my foster family calls me Mel or Melly. I am a shy 3-year-old girl. My foster mom says I probably had a rough start in life, but I'm not ready to talk about it yet. I was found as a stray shortly after my puppies were weaned.  I am looking for that very special and patient person or family to help me overcome my shyness and be a confident Weim again.  Could that be you?

I am housebroken and my foster mom says I can stay out in the house when she goes out for short trips since I mostly just lay on the couch. My foster mom thinks I am new to this house thing because I am startled easily by everyday house things. I really enjoy the outside and love playing with toys out there. Sometimes I even bring them back to you! I also walk very nicely on a leash and am a perfect passenger in the car.

I really like kids. You should see my butt shake when they are around!  There is a little girl who lives here and I especially like her. I give her lots of kisses! My foster mom thinks I would do best in a house with one child or older children because sometimes the noise and sudden movements can scare me.

I also get along with cats, isn't that great?? I live with one now and mostly I just ignore her even when she hisses and runs! I also live with one dog and my foster mom thinks I would do well by myself or with another dog, although more than two other dogs may be too much for me to handle.

My foster mom is working on basic commands with me to help build my confidence and I think I might like to learn more once I get these down, it's fun!  She also told me that the perfect patient family is out there waiting to give me a furever home and help me get my confidence back, is it you??

Love, Mel

I am a 2-year old male blue Weim who likes to run and carry around sticks. I also like to play ball until you are tired because I never tire of fetch! I am a great running partner. Although I love to run and am high energy at the dog park, I am a relaxed dog when indoors. In fact, I’m kind of a couch potato.

My foster mom says I am very loving and the sweetest boy. Although I’m good with kids, I should be in a household with older kids (at least 10 years old) since I have a lot of energy. And I’m good with other dogs if you have one so I can be an only dog or part of your dog pack. I’m not good in a crate (we are working on it). And when you want to take me on an adventure, I travel well in a car but don’t leave me alone.

The folks at the rescue say I need lots of structure in my life. I would be really good with a routine and an owner who is home a lot to help me through a transition to a new home. I would be best with an experienced Weim owner.

My foster mom has been working with me on my commands and we even play cops and robbers – she says “BANG” and I play dead. I’ve been told I am a quick learner. I really want to please and I will do anything you tell me to do, especially if a treat is involved. You and I could have a lot of fun learning new things together, too! If you are looking for a fun, true blue kind of Weim, I am your dog. Come check me out!

Milly

milly milly milly

milly milly

Fostered in Wisconsin

This is Milly, a very sweet two-year-old Weim who had something  horrible happen to her. She was found as a stray and her face was so  swollen she could hardly see. Animal Control picked her up and she  was taken immediately to an emergency vet as, of course, she was  found after-hours and the shelter's vet was unavailable.

The Bay Area Humane Society in Wisconsin did an awesome job keeping  her comfortable and sought out GLWR's help to give Milly a home to  recuperate in and a chance at a great life.

She is at a great foster home now and takes 15 pills a day for the  inflammation and pain. She has been a real trooper through it all.  Believe it or not, these are the "after" photos! She looked much  worse when she was found. We are hoping that with lots of TLC she  will grow her hair back as she loves getting pets on the spots of  hair she does have.

Like most rescues we operate with volunteers and are funded by  donations. GLWR and Milly would greatly appreciate any contribution  you could make to help her as she recovers. GLWR is a 501(c)3 non-  profit and your donation should be tax deductible (check with your  tax preparer).

UPDATE 2/26/11

Milly

Milly continues to slowly improve.  Healing her immune system will take some time.  She has started to grow hair back (yeah!) and is not on so many meds.  She gets a special bath twice weekly to help her skin and is on supplements to support her immune system.

Milly has a long way to go, but remains a sweetie through her ordeal.  Once feeling better, she will need to be spayed and receive vaccines.  She is VERY grateful for everyone's support and prayers.

Update 3/28/11

Milly Milly

Milly's foster Mom reports:  We've been lowering her meds and she seems to be holding her own.  This week the skin/fur in her bare spots appeared better to me.  There are three spots where she had bad sores that are healing well now.  Her eye has not swelled since the middle of the month (we were having trouble with her face swelling as we reduced her meds).  Milly is a happy girl who loves to chew on toys and play at the dog park.  Things are definitely looking up for her!

Update 4/29/11

Milly Milly

Milly Milly

As you can see, Milly is making tremendous progress!  Her hair is filling in and her skin is slowly improving.  She has hair on her face now!

She is still being bathed weekly in special shampoo because her skin continues to be very dry though her sores are healing well.  Milly is on some extra supplements to strengthen her immune system and help with the dry skin.  All of her physical signs are stronger and she's been able to cut her antihistamine dosage (a big milestone for her!).

Milly is enjoying the warmer weather so she can take walks without her heavy winter coat (aren't we all?).  She has two lab friends, likes to ride in the car and is very good with her foster Mom's two-year-old granddaughter.

Milly's foster Mom reports that she was quite quiet the first few weeks, but now has become a good watchdog.  Apparently she's feeling better and becoming more Weim-like!

We used some of the donations that were given in Milly's name to buy her some chew toys.  She LOVES to chew!  She especially loves the deer antlers and thanks all of her supporters very much.

Milly's foster Mom writes:

How Many People Does it Take to Save A Weimie (Milly)?

# 1 An alert Green Bay Animal Control Officer (we wish we knew  their name).

The Bay Area Humane Society folks who were willing to go
"the extra mile".
# 2 Tania
# 3 Dr. Sue
# 4 Olivia
# 5 Lindsay

# 6 Laurie Collins of GLWR who coordinated Milly's
transportation and foster home arrangements.

# 7& #8 Carrie Bronstad and her husband, former GLWR foster  parents and current providers of transportation. They drove five  hours on wintery roads to bring Milly to her foster home.

# 9 Me (Joanne Maggio), who is providing foster care to one  of the sweetest dogs I've had the privilege of knowing.

# 10 YOU, who can save another Weimie by:
volunteering to foster
providing transportation
donating $ to help provide care and medical  services

None of us, alone, could have saved Milly; it took NINE people...will  YOU be one of the next nine to save a Weimie???????

Oliver's Blog

Meet Ollie, a very good sport who let us dress him like a girl!  Ollie is a very nice 5-year-old Weim who has been passed over a few times by adopters because of his not-so-perfect looks.  He's just not as "pretty" as some on the outside due to his patchy haircoat.

He came to us with a large amount of hair loss and it has been determined that he has hypothyroidism.  Fortunately, it's a simple-to-manage condition with inexpensive pills he must take for the rest of his life.  Bloodwork is also needed occasionally to monitor his thyroid levels.  As long as he stays on his meds, his haircoat should continue to grow and he should lose weight.

Ollie is a sweet boy with a sad story.  His Mom loved him very much but was in a horrible accident and could not physically care for him anymore.  She asked GLWR to help find him a wonderful home.

He is great with other dogs, cats, birds and guinea pigs and he loves people.  His Mom used to call him the "dog ambassador" for his neighborhood!  He is a loving, mannerly, sensitive Weim who just wants a home and some love in return.

If you have room in your heart and home for this big lovebug, please let us know and we'll arrange a visit.  Let's get Ollie out of the wedding party and to the center of the stage.  Heck, we'll even throw in the champagne ...but we won't do the chicken dance!

Peaches

Fostered in Ohio

My name is Peach and I am so lucky to have found GLWR the day before Thanksgiving!  I was found wandering around a park in Ohio, and my foster Mom rescued me from a place call the pound, where there were lots of dogs, noises and smells.  At first I was very shy, because I was afraid.  But then I found out that my foster Mom loves me very much, and gives me everything I need.  Food, love, structure and attention.  I think I like the attention more than the food.  I love sleeping at night under the covers right next to a warm body.  Quite a change from that pound place, I must say.
They think I'm six years old.  I have some of lumps, but they took me to get them tested and I am healthy.

I like other dogs, ok, but like to have most of the attention to myself.  My foster family has cats and I pretty much think they are the most boring thing on the face of the earth.  My foster family has two kids, but I prefer the quieter adults in the family.  Kids are ok, but don’t expect me to play with them, I like to cuddle with them much better.  In fact I will even follow you around until you sit down and I can cuddle with you.  I guess you could say cuddling is my "thing".
I really do not like being left alone and I pretty much let my family know by barking the whole time they are gone.  You don’t have to put me in crate, I know how to behave, but just want you to know I can bark long and loud. When you get home I will give you the biggest smile and let you know how much I missed you.  I am starting wear a very fashionable shirt, called a Thundershirt, to help me with my anxiety when my family goes away.  I think I look marvelous.

I am pretty much a lady of leisure, I like to take long naps and I love walks.  I do not like to be outside unless I am on a walk or playing with you.  After all, a lady’s place is on the couch.  I love to go for rides in the car and would love to accompany you on errands.

If you are looking for a calm, loving Weimaraner, then I am your gal.  Make sure you have plenty of time to pamper me with love and attention, because that is what I crave the most.  I know I sound like the perfect dog, but what can I say, I am a real peach.

Meet Ruger, a very athletic 5 1/2-year-old boy.  He needs lots of daily exercise and we mean full-out exercise, not just a walk around the block.  If you are a runner, he'd be a great companion.

Crates are not his thing, but he has been behaving when left alone in his foster home for short periods of time.  He would do best in a home where someone is home more than not.  He was home with his former owner (who sadly passed away) all the time, so he's now adjusting to becoming more independent.

Ruger would also be happiest as an only dog, or with another dog who is submissive.  He likes to be the boss (don't we all???).   He also especially enjoys his job as watch dog and will let you know if there is anything outside that you need to know about.

His foster home has a cat and he does a lot of staring at it.  Probably best he not have one in his new home lest his curiosity get the better of him sometime.

He's a big boy, about 80 lbs., but very fit.  He gets very excited seeing children play outside and it would be best, due to his size and need to be Top Dog, that his new family have children no younger than teenagers.

Dog toys? A game of fetch?  A nice, long run in a field?  Ruger is your guy!

My name is Shadow and I have a lot to offer you. I am a five year old housebroken, quiet, crate trained female Weim. I do well with other dogs or can be an only dog. I like to play with sticks and fetch. Compared to other Weims, I am a low to medium activity dog. My owner surrendered me, which is why I know so many things, but not because I was a problem. I really like people and I would love to find an adult household. I am shy “around the head” so kids aren’t the best match for me since they like to grab my ears and nose. I am fine with cats if you have one. I am a sweet girl who wants a home where I am loved and can be your best friend. In other words, you can take me home right away and I will fit right in!

Sierra

Sierra Sierra

Sierra  Sierra

Fostered in Michigan

Sierra is a lovely, affectionate six-year-old silver girl who is still very active, fit and in great shape and overall health for her age. She does have one female issue in that she has a genetic malformation in her urinary tract that requires her to be on Proin for bladder control. When she is on the medication she has no problems.

Sierra's story is a sad one...given up to a shelter by her owner, then transferred to weim rescue she was actually adopted by a very loving family, but had a couple of unfortunate circumstances while there. She was attacked twice while she was being walked on the leash by other very aggressive dogs that were in the neighborhood. Therefore, even though her adoptive human tried to protect her, Sierra understandably has some fear-based problems when on leash and approached by other dogs. She will go into self protection mode and becomes scared and aggressive towards the other dog before they can get her. She thinks that assuming the worst is the only way to protect herself from being seriously injured again. Sierra also does not do well in a home with children now as the noise and commotion that comes with kids seems to be a bit too much for her to be comfortable.   She likes to make sure the kids are orderly and well behaved and like a good Mom will nip at them to ensure submission if they get too rowdy. So, we think it best for Sierra to have an adult only home, preferably more rural where she can freely exercises in safety.

If you can provide that for Sierra what you will get is a devoted, loving companion. She will stay by your side and love you with all she has. She is goofy, laying upside down enjoying a good roll in the grass or on the carpet getting her back scratched, following you around the house with her stuffie to show you how very proud she is of her "catch" (which translates to no cats in the home for Sierra...lol) and "woowooing" you when she wants your attention or for you to step it up when putting her food bowl down (can you say very melodic train wail?).

She will also help you clean off the kitchen counters without you even asking (so helpful!!) and she will take out the garbage for you – one piece at a time until it is all over the kitchen when you get home!   Sierra does crate well (so you can keep your counters and garbage safe) and can free roam as long as the environment is "doggie proofed".

Wait – Wait – Wait – Don’t pass me up, check me out! I am a handsome 8-year-old with a body of a 4-year-old, don’t ya think???? I love to prance around the yard,  My Foster Mom says I think I’m a show horse (much prettier though).

I live with two other Weims who I call my sister and brother.   I love having them around as they keep me good company.   I also enjoy spending time alone with my Foster Mom.  I do like her attention and often wonder how nice it would be if I had her all to myself instead of sharing her with the other two.  Either way, I’m a happy Sydney!

What I am not crazy about is these little people that come over, I think they're called "children".   I'm worried they are going to harm me, so I give them a little nip or two as they walk by or I will bark at them  ‘cause I ‘m not sure what they’re gonna do.  Nothing bad has happend since I’ve been by my Foster Mom’s, so I’m getting a little more trusting of those child-things, but would prefer to live somewhere without them. My Foster Mom says that doesn’t make me bad – she says it takes all kinds of Weims to rule the world.   I do love all kinds of other people though – even those teenagers (who have plenty of issues themselves).

Cuddling and admiring is more my m-o, I’m really good at that.  I can admire from afar and not even speak about it.  I am very quiet unless I think we are in harm’s way, then I will let you know.

Thanks for checking me out, if I sound like I would make a good match for your home please let the good ol’ folks of GLWR know and you can come and see for yourself!

Happy Weimie searching ! ~ Sidney

Hi everyone, I'm Tess.

I'm a happy, loving six-year-old who used to spend a lot of time in  an outdoor kennel having babies. You might think that would make me  unfriendly, but I just can't get enough love from everyone I meet.  I've got a lot of time to make up for and I'm making the best of  every opportunity!

I was very skinny and my coat was a mess when my owner dropped me at  the pound with two of my babies. Sadly, the babies were too sick and tiny because none of us were getting fed. So, my babies had to be  put to sleep, whatever that is. I run up to every small dog I meet  to sniff it to see if it might be one of my babies. I walk away  after sniffing looking disappointed and it just breaks my foster  mom's heart. With some vet care and good food, I'm looking pretty  spiffy now if I say so myself! Despite my outdoor upbringing, they  say I'm house trained and nice to have around.

I try to "mother" every new dog I meet and would probably do that  with a cat too, though nobody is sure how I'd be around a kitty.  They say I have a strong prey drive and love to run. I come back  willingly when I hear my name called though. I love other dogs and  play very well with them. My foster parents own a doggie daycare so  I've had lots of chances to make friends of all kinds.

Much to the amazement of my foster parents, my small frame can scale  a 6-foot chain link fence like nothing. I climb up, turn around and  climb down – just like a person would. Hmm, maybe somebody ought to  call Letterman to get on his pet tricks show! My foster mom thinks a  tall wooden fence would be best around my new back yard, if my new  house has one. If I'm in any sort of a park unleashed, someone will  have to keep a close eye on me as a critter sighting may send me over  a fence lickity split! I will also climb a fence to get to my  people, as I become quite attached, you see.

I've been working on leash manners. I just can't wait to get  wherever we're going, and if I catch a scent of something  interesting, all I want to do is follow it. I'm also working on  liking a crate. I'm just so worried that nobody will come back that  I try to break out. I'm making good progress though, a girl can't  change overnight you know!

I like kids, but am still excitable, so older children would be  best. My "mothering" habits and enthusiasm would be too much for  little children.

If you've got a couch, I'd love to snuggle with you. I'll curl up  into a tight ball with my head on your lap. I'm trying to get as  close to you as possible and I'm told it is oh, so cute. If you have  room in your bed, I'm there too, though I need to work on being a bit  more independent and that should wait until I can be okay without a  person around 24/7.

If you could use a little love, I've got it to give. Let my friends
at GLWR know and let's meet!

Love, Tess

I am a true silver, male Weim who is 2 years old. I am energetic, people friendly and social. I like to run! We could have a lot of fun together. I am still young so I “mouth” sometimes but I am just looking for attention. I also am a little “touch shy” at first. For these reasons I am best paired with older kids and adults. I am a good dog that needs a little obedience reinforcement. Basically, like all dogs, I need a human pack leader. I came to the rescue with a brother who doesn’t have to be adopted with me. We are pretty independent siblings. I will make an active household who wants to be on the go very happy.  Check me out!
