Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Bella

I am very sad to let you know that we lost our beloved Bella early this morning to bloat. She was found as a stray in 2003 at the age of about 6 months weighing only 23 lbs (photo on far left). The person who found her named her "Robin"...because she was found beneath a bird feeder trying to eat the scraps that had fallen to the ground. For the next 6.5 much-too-short years of her life in the Pastor household, she endured the luxuries of electric tooth brushings (middle) and was loved by all that passed through these doors. She was the most simple-natured dog I have ever known...full of simple, pure, and totally authentic love. She didn't have a mean bone in her body, and was just so happy to be part of the family. She was also struggling with juvenile kidney disease, but was holding her own and still eating very well. She now plays again with our Nikita, Zoey, Dozer and Ralphie...Dozer was her man so I'm sure she was excited to be reunited with him today. Godspeed Little "B"...you have made an indelible mark on our souls and we are honored to have had the privilege to care for you.

Jules
I adopted Jules in the spring of 2006 and have not for one second regretted rescuing her. In the last four years we worked through her health and behavioral issues. I lost a few sandwiches and a try or two of Rice Krispy Treats along the way, but we came to an understanding. Despite her health issues and abandonment, Jules was full of love and knew how to show it.
She was always the center of attention if children were around, soaking up all of the attention she could get. More than once I had to clean her off because she was orange from being petted by child-size "Cheetos hands"! Running around or playing dress-up, Jules was always game.
Jules was great with other dogs and had impeccable manners. When her little dachshund friend, Stumpy, would take over her giant bed Jules would crawl onto Stumpy's tiny bed with her legs, tail and head hanging off!
When just the two of us were home, I could always count on her company in whatever room I was in. She'd lounge on her bed or have her head in my lap. Like most Weims, she never saw a bed she didn't like.
People unfamiliar with rescued dogs were always surprised when I told them Jule's history. She touched everyone in my family, all of my friends and really, anyone who came into contact with her. I have had many dogs touch my heart, but there is something about a rescue dog that goes deeper. Jules showed me every moment how grateful she was for being given a second chance. In reality, I did not rescue her, she rescued me.
Dear Jules,
You were always the light I counted on, during some very dark days the past four years. With all the difficult changes and the events, you endeared, joyful and funny as ever. You will always hold a significant place in my heart and soul. I will miss you – “moose”, “bucket head”, “floppy paws”, “cross pawed puppy with all paw drive” – dearly. Until we meet again. Love, DJ
Kierie
For those of you not fortunate enough to have met our Ms. Kierie, her story was an extra special one. She came to GLWR as a stray from an Ohio shelter about 3 years ago. She was found as a abandoned in a rural area and apparently had just been dumped out in the woods and left. Kierie was about 10 years old then. She was picked up by GLWR volunteers in Ohio who helped transport her to me so we could get her into GLWR. They gave Kierie her strong Irish name as she was such a spitfire even then. When I met the volunteers, I remember how badly Kierie looked. She was emaciated at 42 lbs. with every bone on her frail body showing, she looked tired and distraught yet even then there was an unmistakable glimmer in her eye that you just could not miss. When I arrived home with her, she was so weak that she could not walk and Michel had to carry her into the house. It was the first time I ever saw him cry. But Kierie was a fighter and she came back stronger and healthier than she had been for a long time. She found her place in the "pack" here and became a part of our permanent foster family at GLWR. We used to laugh at her when she would sit in front of Michel and give him "what for" for something she thought he did wrong. If he ignored her she would move closer, pick up her paw and give him a sound "thwack" on his leg as if to say "hey you...I am talking to you and you best listen to me!" And then there was her famous "Winnie the Pooh" sit. All she needed was a honey pot to look the part. And of course, when her "bum" itched she would sit on her tail and spin herself around like a "Tilt-A-Whirl" and SMILE the biggest smile you ever saw! She was always making us laugh with her crazy pup antics! Michel always said if Kierie was a lady she would be the crusty ole bar-fly sitting at the end of the bar with a cigarette dangling out of the corner of her mouth, a gruff and gravely voice, too much make up , her hair in a "doo", a whiskey in her hand and country tunes on the jukebox! She was a tough ole bird with one of the strongest spirits I have ever known...but had such a warm heart and so much love to give.
We will miss you ole girl..more than you could possibly ever know...you have brought us so much joy, laughter and love and our lives have been the richer for knowing you and calling you "friend". You have taught us the meaning of tenacity and the value of having a strong will and spirit while yet having the grace to be humble and thankful for those who help us along on our journey...God' s Speed to you as you run down that final drive to your restful future...you earned it...God's sweet peace to you my dear friend, we have shed many tears today for we feel an empty space and a loss here without you...a candle is lit here to help you find your way....until we meet once again....all our love dear Kierie....Tonette & Michel
Jake
Jake - From the moment we adopted you, when you were 1 1/2 years old, you found your way into our hearts. Your endless enthusiasm and boundless joy were contagious. You befriended everyone you met. You adored all children and always made a bee line right for the smallest toddler....then with infinite gentleness, you would cuddle or play tug-of-war...never once knocking over the child...always causing squeals of delight and giggles.
You were our Gentle Ben. We were told that you had been turned into the Humane Society because you were aggressive and un-trainable. Yet, the most gentle, calm Weim, we have never met. You earned your Canine Good Citizenship certificate within the 1st year. You made friends with everyone, loved everyone and adored children. You were never happier than when you had everyone's attention....all for yourself. You were stubborn, mule-headed, pushy....pretty typical for Weim. You had a penchant for eating underwear and socks whole....and hated being crated....You broke us in and trained us well.
You were my running buddy for many years.....our dear friend and beloved companion. It will be hard for any Weim to walk in your shoes. You were very special. You will always be close to our hearts and in our memories. Love, Lynn & Dan.

Zebb Audunson
May 19, 2000 - August 10, 2009

Zebb leaves behind his parents - Cheryl, Jamie - his two sisters & their spouses: Leslie & Rob Franssen, Lindsey Audunson & Pat Blasland – his girlfriend “Maddie” many Family and Friends who share and mourn the loss of our Family member who left us far too soon.
If you saw the sun disappear Monday morn or noticed when the sky over Monument Beach became cloudy, if you see the tears in our eyes as time has passed it is because our Beloved Zebb left us unexpectedly. His given name was Zebulon Montgomery Pike Audunson “Zebby” and his Hebrew name was “Beshert” which means “The one who God chose exactly for you.” Know that we were Blessed that Zebb chose us. He enriched our lives every minute with his love, affection and companionship.
Zebb was a character - known throughout many towns on Cape Cod and the South Shore. On our boat he was the Mascot who dutifully stood at the bow in his bright orange life jacket hoping to catch a glimpse of another sea-faring pal. Zebb loved his daily runs down the driveway, his long evening walks on Cape Cod Canal or his “off-season jaunts” over to Mashnee & Tobey Islands – his second home was Corporation Beach where over the years he explored, played and ran like a puppy – he climbed the icy pier in the aftermath of storms and ran Corporation at full speed like a greyhound. Zebb was King of the Peninsula and welcomed all who came down the long driveway to visit – a protector of family and home. Zebb was born a ham and gladly posed whenever he saw a camera.
Zebb brought joy to many Special Needs Students in Massachusetts – although the reindeer ears were not his favorite, he sensed they were “important for the kids” and wore them gladly where he instantly transformed in Rudolph a favorite at holiday school plays. At the first “Ellie’s Run”, Zebb single-handedly raised $1,200 when he appeared in his full Massachusetts State Police Trooper uniform adorning a scarf, holster, belt, badge and vest. If there was a hat around he wore it, if there was a “steak” left unattended for a split-second – he enjoyed it and made sure to thank you later with a kiss.
How can you describe Zebb? He was a lot of things but most importantly “Zebb was the Love of This Family’s Life.” For those who had the privilege of being in his life you no doubt received his unconditional love every minute you had with him. We Thank You in sharing with us our 110 pound bundle of joy.
Forever Our Hearts Will Be Broken - The Audunson Family
Brady
Doesn’t he remind you of the dog in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”?
Dear
We would like to thank you for bringing Brady into our lives. Unfortunately, Brady passed away last Monday, February 23. We are heartbroken to have lost such a good friend. We received Brady from the Rescue just three years ago. He was a handful at times, but really just wanted and needed to be loved. He loved going on long walks with us. He was as strong as an ox and scary to some because of his size, but could be a “gentle ben” with those he felt comfortable with.
The house seems so quiet now and we will miss him. It’s a little soon to think about getting another weim, but sometime in the future, maybe we’ll be able to bring another into our lives.
Thanks to Sue Morris for giving us three years of joy (and yes, sometimes frustration) with Brady.

Gus
To our beloved Gus, We rescued you thirty-seven days ago. You came into our lives briefly, but joyfully! You came to us with a lot of physical and emotional problems but we felt you could overcome that with lots of love and attention. We didn’t figure you’d get sick again so soon – and so you passed away suddenly. Our hearts are broken and we grieve again, so soon after losing Hogan too! He met you at the Rainbow Bridge and all your cares, worries and anxieties are gone. Your physical health is restored – you are happy again.
And so, with your passing, our final gift to you is this resting place and monument. Since your original owners abandoned you in your short, restless life, we – your new parents who adopted you, will Never abandon you! You have a permanent place in our hearts and a proper resting place in your passing. As you rest beside Hogan remember that we loved you even though it was such a short time – We love you Gus, our big sweet baby! Meet us at the Rainbow Bridge with Hogan, Duffy, and Higgins – Until we meet again!

Yoda
because it was first in your arms that I found home.
How could I have possibly resisted those eyes.
You held me tighter and loved me longer then any other possibly could.
We both needed love,
and it was only in each other that we would recognize
how much love there was to give.
You made me feel like I was more special
then any one thing could ever be.
Who says humans aren’t a dogs best friend.
You certainly were mine.
You let me be me, and loved me for it
as goofy as only I could be.
I am sorry I cannot be with you now,
but I live strong in your heart
and I will be waiting patiently for you
like a good dog, like a good friend.
We were always made to be together and we always will be.
It was first in your arms my life began,
when I was just so very small
and it was in your arms I closed my eyes one last time
when I was so very tired,
It was you that made my life complete.
I lived strong and I lived happy
because of your heart
because of your love.
and my place was and always will be by your side.

CHARLIE
What a
great guy Charlie was and always will be.
Even though Charlie’s time with us was way too short,
He left
footprints deep into our hearts and he is missed
So very much!
Born June of 2003
Died April 4, 2008
In our Hearts forever,
Sue, Kayla, Ray, Derek,
In Memory of Dick and Rocky,
He was a wonderful companion after Dick died. I don't think any dog ever slept closer to me. He is REALLY missed. I checked his papers & this great dog was going to be 15 in April.
I am very grateful to him for leaving me on his terms when he was ready. I did not want to make that decision for him.
Thank you for rescuing him. I know he had a good time while he was here. I think he stuck around for me, to help me get through the first year without Dick.
Good bye good friend, say hello to Dick.
Deb
Dear Cloud,
"When we truly love a human and know that they love us in return, an energetic link bonds us forever. This love becomes a kind of cord connecting us to our person (s).
This cord is not even severed in death. Our souls will be linked forever." ......(from Conversations with Dogs) The Rainbow Bridge is aglow from the light of all our candles, helping you find your way, lighting your path.....You'll always have a place in our hearts.
God Speed Pretty Lady
A candle has been lit, to help Witte find his way across the rainbow bridge. Witte began his journey at the beginning of Feb, 2007.
From his loving owner, Zach, just day's before:
I would just like to say thank you for the gift you gave me. I've had
Witte for almost exactly one year. He has been the best puppy (ok, he is
7-8, but will always be my "puppy") He has been the best companion
someone could ask for; always ready for a run/walk, forest exploration,
tennis ball match, swim in the lake, camping trip, etc, and always
minded his manners.
Unfortunately we have not been feeling well lately. We were at the Dr's
office today to have a liver biopsy done, which was not performed,
having instead found that he is already in the advanced stages of
cancer affecting several major organs. There is nothing left that can
be done medically, besides keeping him comfortable. I have taken him
home for the time being, but the Vet estimates that it will be
days/weeks before he crosses the rainbow bridge, or we will need to
help him over. He is a real trooper though, not ever showing any signs
of pain or discomfort, and "daddy" is pampering him in his time left.
I just wanted to thank you and the entire organization again for
allowing me to have such a wonderful companion. You can truly judge how
much someone means to you by the number of tears you shed for them.
Dear GLWR,
On behalf of my family, I want to let you know that your organization is very much appreciated. We recently lost our 8-1/2 year old Weimaraner "Jimmy" to cancer.
Roughly 9 months ago he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Jimmy was such a special dog and he had such a wonderful personality. We treated his cancer with chemotherapy and did everything possible for him, not missing a treatment or an appointment. Unfortunately the cancer went into his nervous system and there was nothing else we could do.
We knew there would come a time we would have to say goodbye, but we never knew how difficult that time would be. It was the most heart-breaking experience in our lives. Thankfully we have another Weimaraner "Lucky" that we rescued 7 years ago to ease our loss.
It has been a month and we finally had the opportunity to go through all of his toys and other household items that your organization may need. In his memory we are pleased to donate these items to other needy Weimaraner at your shelter.
Thank You for your generosity. Please know that we are saddened by your loss. We dedicate this memorial in memory of your beloved Jimmy. Candles are lit, in his name, to light his path & guide him to the rainbow bridge.
Sincerely, The GLWR community
Candle's have been lit through-out the GLWR community, to help gentle Nickel on his way across the rainbow bridge.
In memory of Slater who crossed the Rainbow Bridge, August, 2007.
Slater will always be a puppy across the Rainbow Bridge.
