Wisconsin Chapter*
* we do not ship dogs, but if you are willing to travel to
meet one of our dogs fostered in another state, then you are welcome to
apply for adoption. With the increased cost of travel, GLWR will do what we
can to make it easy for potential adaptors to meet dogs.
Atticus

Atticus is a handsome 5 year old boy who was found as a stray. He is a lean mean loving machine! He loves everyone he meets. He is laid back, does not counter surf, doesn't bark and loves all humans! He also loves to go to the dog park and meet new dogs and people. He is good to free roam in your house and loves to go on car rides. He is full of smiles and wags all the time - to meet Atticus is to love him!

Hunter

All you need is love...
Hi, my name is Hunter. I’m a nine-year-old boy that is as sweet as can be. I
had a run of bad luck around October and but I am on the mend now. My
owner decided he didn’t want me anymore and banished me to the lower level and only let me out a couple of times
during the day. Because I didn’t get any exercise, my back legs got real
weak and I lost all kinds of weight. Don’t feel sorry for me because I’m
getting back to normal very quickly. I love to go for walks, get my ears
rubbed and get plenty of hugs.
I bark when I want to tell you something
(I’m hungry...I have to go outside...rub my ears, please). I have a raspy
voice like Clint Eastwood-I heard some people say that’s sexy!
I am a very sweet boy, very submissive and don’t have problems with other
dogs-not even the bossy ones. I love, love, love EVERYONE! I got to meet
my foster mom’s three-month-old granddaughter and I just loved her all up. I
knew I had to be gentle so I just licked her little hand.
I am very trustworthy and I don’t need to be crated up at all. My mom lets me roam
freely while she is at work and I am always good. I don’t counter surf,
dig in garbage or make a mess. I do love food however, so if you’re not
careful with that sandwich in your hand, I just might try to sneak a taste.
Whoever said “you can’t teach and old dog new tricks” didn’t know what
they were talking about. My foster mom trained my on the invisible fence
and it was a piece of cake. I I know where my boundaries are so I can go
outside and play with the other three dogs here whenever I want. This is helping my
back legs get stronger. When I first got to my foster home, I had a
hard time walking up the steps, now I can take the steps easily. I can
even jump up on the bed now (my foster mom lets me sleep at the foot of the
bed).
If you love to take nice long walks, need a traveling companion or someone
to keep you company while you’re doing yard work, I could be the dog of
your dreams.

Lita

Hello, I'm Lita a really great seven year old female weim. I love to walk, take runs, flush birds, go for rides, and be with my other Weim friend DejaBlue. I get along really well with other dogs, men, women and older children. Though I get along with other dogs, I would prefer to be the only dog in your home because I would rather not share your attention. Come on, who can disagree with that? I'm just being honest here.
I am very good at holding (you know what) for the longest time, my current forster owners just can't believe my iron bladder! I sleep in a crate at night (don't have to) and I am a very good girl when they are at work. I always let you know something is around and protect you. I'd be great for a lady, because I am full of love, a really great dog, and would protect you when we go out.
Everyone at Doggy Daycare just loves me, even the other male Weims think I am special. See, I am so amazing it's hard not to (did I mention I'm humble too?). All I want is a great loving home with low calorie treats and some exercise. Do you have that? If so, ask GLWR about getting us together.
Look forward to meeting you soon! Spring is in the air and that's the perfect time to come and adopt me. Just think of the great walks or runs we could take. Let's get together, you won't be disappointed!
XOXO Lita

Milly

Fostered in Wisconsin
This is Milly, a very sweet two-year-old Weim who had something
horrible happen to her. She was found as a stray and her face was so
swollen she could hardly see. Animal Control picked her up and she
was taken immediately to an emergency vet as, of course, she was
found after-hours and the shelter's vet was unavailable.
The Bay Area Humane Society in Wisconsin did an awesome job keeping
her comfortable and sought out GLWR's help to give Milly a home to
recuperate in and a chance at a great life.
She is at a great foster home now and takes 15 pills a day for the
inflammation and pain. She has been a real trooper through it all.
Believe it or not, these are the "after" photos! She looked much
worse when she was found. We are hoping that with lots of TLC she
will grow her hair back as she loves getting pets on the spots of
hair she does have.
Like most rescues we operate with volunteers and are funded by
donations. GLWR and Milly would greatly appreciate any contribution
you could make to help her as she recovers. GLWR is a 501(c)3 non-
profit and your donation should be tax deductible (check with your
tax preparer).
UPDATE 2/26/11

Milly continues to slowly improve. Healing her immune system will take some time. She has started to grow hair back (yeah!) and is not on so many meds. She gets a special bath twice weekly to help her skin and is on supplements to support her immune system.
Milly has a long way to go, but remains a sweetie through her ordeal. Once feeling better, she will need to be spayed and receive vaccines. She is VERY grateful for everyone's support and prayers.
Update 3/28/11

Milly's foster Mom reports: We've been lowering her meds and she seems to be holding her own. This week the skin/fur in her bare spots appeared better to me. There are three spots where she had bad sores that are healing well now. Her eye has not swelled since the middle of the month (we were having trouble with her face swelling as we reduced her meds). Milly is a happy girl who loves to chew on toys and play at the dog park. Things are definitely looking up for her!
Milly's foster Mom writes:
How Many People Does it Take to Save A Weimie (Milly)?
# 1 An alert Green Bay Animal Control Officer (we wish we knew
their name).
The Bay Area Humane Society folks who were willing to go
"the extra mile".
# 2 Tania
# 3 Dr. Sue
# 4 Olivia
# 5 Lindsay
# 6 Laurie Collins of GLWR who coordinated Milly's
transportation and foster home arrangements.
# 7& #8 Carrie Bronstad and her husband, former GLWR foster
parents and current providers of transportation. They drove five
hours on wintery roads to bring Milly to her foster home.
# 9 Me (Joanne Maggio), who is providing foster care to one
of the sweetest dogs I've had the
privilege of knowing.
# 10 YOU, who can save another Weimie by:
volunteering to foster
providing transportation
donating $ to help provide care and medical
services
None of us, alone, could have saved Milly; it took NINE people...will
YOU be one of the next nine to save a Weimie???????
