Donations in Memoriam

A donor may wish to make a gift in memoriam of a family member, valued friend, or pet. If you'd like GLWR to send a personalized hand-written note to the family informing them of your donation, please email our Donor Appreciation Coordinator Cindy Orlandi - cyndosura@gmail.com with the details.

Direct Gift of Stock

Did you know that you can transfer stock shares as a charitable donation to GLWR? Doing so may allow you to obtain the tax benefits of making a charitable contribution without incurring the capital gains tax on your shares as we are a 501(c)(3) rated charity by the IRS. GLWR has a non-profit corporation brokerage account through Vanguard Brokerage and we would be happy to talk with you about the process of donating stocks

Direct Gift of Appreciated Securities

This method conserves the donor’s cash while helping to avoid capital gains tax on the sale of appreciated securities. The market value of the securities is deductible in the current year’s tax return. The donor should consult with their tax advisor.

Direct Gifts of Life Insurance

If you have a life insurance policy that is no longer required, transferring the policy to the GLWR may provide benefits to both GLWR and the donor. GLWR would ultimately collect the policy value and the donor may be entitled to an income tax deduction in the amount of the policy’s value. The donor should consult with their tax advisor.

Wills

The donor may list GLWR as a beneficiary in their will. The distribution of the estate is then made at the donor’s death.

How Your Donation Helps the Dogs

Every dollar you donate to GLWR is making sure we can provide the necessary care for any Weimaraner in need of re-homing and a second chance at loving. We are a 501(c) (3) organization so all monetary donations are tax deductible to the extent that IRS allows.

One hundred percent of every dollar donated goes towards the cost of care for the dogs we have in foster homes nationwide. From the basics like vaccinations and medications, to specialty surgery for those like Max, who came to us as a stray with a damaged eye that required removal.

GLWR is a nationwide community of supporters and volunteers passionate about making a difference to the lives of DOGS in need and keeping them out of harm’s way. The dogs come to us for various reasons from strays and shelters, to changes in their owner’s life that may include the death of the owner.

Whatever the reason, we take the dogs in with compassion for those surrendering them and without judgment. After all, It’s All About the Dogs.

We are a volunteer run, nonprofit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue and placement of Weimaraners in the Great Lakes region – including MI, OH, IL, IN and WI.

GLWR is a foster based rescue organization and does not have a traditional physical kennel facility like many humane societies or animal shelters. Our dogs are typically housed in family homes and cared for by their foster families until we find a forever home for them. Therefore, our process to meet dogs and to adopt may be different than a normal animal control facility, humane society or animal shelter. We work hard to match each dog with their perfect forever home.
